Job Title:  Cognitive and Behavioral Neurology Section Head, Associate Professor or Professor  (Position # 00818547 – Requisition TBD)

Location:  University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus

The Department of Neurology at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus is seeking an engaging leader to direct the Cognitive and Behavioral Neurology Section and expand its clinical, research, educational, and patient outreach programs. The department is seeking individuals who are visionary, collaborative, communicative, caring, detail-oriented, organized, proactive, able to think critically, focused on quality, dedicated to personal growth, and highly motivated. Faculty rank will be associate or full professor, depending on qualifications. Candidates with clinical and/or basic research interests are encouraged to apply. This faculty position will work in the Cognitive and Behavioral Neurology Section, which includes five neurologists (one with dual training in behavioral neurology and movement disorders); one dual-trained neurologist/psychiatrist, one dual-trained neuro-ophthalmologist/behavioral neurologist, one neurodevelopmental disabilities specialist, one neuropsychologist; two advanced practice providers (one physician assistant and one nurse practitioner), and one or two psychiatry, behavorial neurology and neuropsychiatry fellows per year.

Faculty position duties include teaching, research, clinical service, and administrative duties as well as leadership and other roles. Participation in all section administrative/didactic meetings is expected. Administrative responsibilities include development of critical clinical and research pathways, committee work, and projects to improve section and department functions, most importantly to mentor all section members particularly junior faculty and fellows. Opportunities to mentor neurology residents and medical students are also available. Additionally, involvement in teaching students, residents and fellows; attendance at meetings and educational events, and involvement in section- and departmentwide quality and performance improve projects are expected.

The section works closely with the University of Colorado Alzheimer’s and Cognition Center (CUACC),which is engaged in patient care, clinical research, and transitional research through collaborations with the Anschutz Medical Campus and the University of Colorado Health System. Section members conduct clinical research with CUACC and with patients at the CU Memory Disorders Clinic and Neurobehavior Clinic. The section also maintains a close association with the Marcus Institute for Brain Health at the Anschutz Medical Campus, a unique entity dedicated to the assessment and care of patients with mild traumatic brain injury.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate Professor: MD or DO; board-certified neurologist; five years of clinical and research expertise in cognitive and behavioral neurology; a state of Colorado medical license and DEA license obtained on or before the hire date; and a scholarly and academic record consistent with the appointment at the associate professor level in the School of Medicine.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in an academic hospital setting; experience with neurological patients, especially patients with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease and/or experience in managing neurodegenerative diseases in a subspecialty environment; eligibility to obtain other states’ unrestricted medical licenses; and a record of research activity and funding is highly desirable.

Job Title: Behavioral Neurologist for Expanding and Established Program (Open to 2023 Fellows and Experienced Physicians) 

Location: The Advocate Aurora Health Memory Center is currently located at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Illinois and looking to expand to both Milwaukee and Kenosha, Wisconsin. 

The Memory Center is a well-respected clinical, educational, and research center for dementia care and has grown to a team of 20 since its inception in 2014.  Led by Darren Gitelman, MD, in Illinois, and Michael Malone, MD, in Wisconsin, the Memory Center is supported by research and clinical staff including dedicated neuropsychologists and a social worker.  In light of the program’s success, it is looking to grow within several geographic locations to continue providing the highest-quality, patient-centered care to diagnose the cause of memory loss, develop a comprehensive plan of care, and offer support to patients and their care partners. Its sophisticated, multidisciplinary approach focuses on the whole person to diagnose and treat memory loss diseases and conditions such as Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia.
