From The President

Hello SBCN Members and Friends,

I am humbled and honored to serve as the 2023-2025 president of the SBCN and the chair of the Behavioral Neurology and Neuropsychiatry (BNN) section of the AAN.  This is an exciting and vibrant time for our field. Disease-modifying therapies for Alzheimer’s disease are becoming a reality, offering the hope for a future that includes such therapies for a range of neurodegenerative dementias. Telemedicine has improved access to the valued expertise of our field. Fundamental interests in brain-behavior relationships and neurodegenerative disorders are foundational to our field. Additionally, there is a growing number of experts among us with diverse subspecialty interests such as neuro- modulation, traumatic brain injury, cognitive-affective disturbances in cerebellar disorders, brain health, neurorehabilitation, and functional neurological disorder.

Moving forward, we must consider ways to ensure our field continues to attract outstanding talent across clinical, research, and educational efforts. At the same time, we must continue to champion equity, diversity, and inclusion throughout the profession.  We look forward to working with allied organizations and sections such as our longstanding partnership with the American Neuropsychiatric Association (ANPA) and emerging collaborations with the AAN Geriatric Neurology Section. Initiatives in development include efforts to organize the Daniel I. Kaufer, MD, ANPA-SBCN Symposium at the 2024 ANPA annual meeting and discussions about a series of virtual educational lectures with the AAN Geriatric Neurology Section.  Look for upcoming registration information and plan to attend our upcoming virtual event on January 18:  a panel presentation on the “Present and Future of Behavioral Neurology and Neuropsychiatry.”
