Dear SBCN Members and Colleagues,
I am honored and excited to begin my two-year tenure as president of the Society for Behavioral and Cognitive Neurology (SBCN) and chair of the Behavioral Neurology and Neuropsychiatry (BNNP) section of the American Academy of Neurology (AAN). SBCN has long been a hub for clinicians, researchers, and educators committed to advancing the understanding of brain-behavior relationships. I look forward to collaborating with each of you in the coming years to further our clinical, research, and educational efforts.
This is a challenging but transformative time for medicine and research. Behavioral and cognitive neurology stands at a pivotal moment with emerging discoveries and innovations poised to reshape our understanding and treatment of neurological disorders. The approval of the first blood-based biomarker, together with growing real-world experience with disease-modifying therapies, is poised to transform how we diagnose and care for individuals with cognitive impairment. At the same time, artificial intelligence and machine learning are revolutionizing our interpretation of real-world data—embracing everything from behavior and movement to speech and language patterns. I am thrilled by the many cross-disciplinary and collaborative opportunities SBCN and the field now offer.
Key Initiatives
In the coming year, I am excited to focus on several key initiatives to enhance the SBCN membership experience and facilitate further scientific exchange:
- Continue strengthening our partnership with the American Neuropsychiatric Association (ANPA) to broaden networking opportunities and foster collaborations in research, education, and advocacy.
- Enhance cross-sectional initiatives at the AAN to translate research advancements into everyday clinical practice.
- Actively support and access the SBCN-sponsored journal, Cognitive and Behavioral Neurology, as a platform for both new discoveries and ongoing discourse about the profession.
- Expand educational resources for trainees and early-career professionals within the BNNP section.
Stay Engaged with SBCN
I encourage each of you to engage with SBCN, share your expertise, collaborate with colleagues to share new ideas, and mentor early-career professionals as you continue to improve care for patients.
If you have not yet renewed your SBCN membership, please take a moment to show your support by paying your 2025 membership dues. Your dues help support ongoing efforts to promote the profession and our annual networking reception. Click here to renew your membership now.
